David Senanu Eklu

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rtd) David Senanu Eklu is a seasoned law enforcement professional with extensive experience in crisis management, conflict resolution, strategic communication and public education in crime prevention/security awareness. His academic background in communication studies, peace, security and conflict studies, coupled with hands-on experience in various command positions within the Ghana Police Service from the district, divisional, regional and national levels, as well as foreign training programmes equip him with a unique perspective on promoting the culture of safety and security at the personal, community and workplace levels, among others.
Mr Eklu's expertise in crisis communication, security management and community policing makes him a valuable asset, particularly in promoting safety and security. He excels in researching crisis and security management strategies, and conflict resolution techniques, as well as capacity building in empowering individuals and communities to develop a higher sense of safety and security.
While in the Ghana Police Service, he exercised additional responsibility to coordinate the Police Volunteer Cadet programme throughout the country. This was a youth crime prevention programme introduced by the Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education in second-cycle schools. Students who voluntarily joined the program received specialized training in crime prevention, basic public order or event management, leadership skills, and more. The program was implemented in over fifteen second-cycle schools in Ghana.
Mr. Eklu's commitment to continuous learning is evident through his participation in numerous courses and training programmes. This reflects his dedication to professional development and staying current with trends in crisis management, security and safety, crime prevention, and safety education. He is a Certified Alternative Dispute Resolution Practitioner and a Board-Certified Security Professional (CPP), with ASIS International, a global association of over 40,000 security professionals serving in both public and private security industries.
He has over 30 years of experience in policing, at both local and international levels. His most recent position was as a Regional Police Commander until his retirement in May 2024.
